Happy Monday to everyone except for the whole team from yesterday.
It all gets pretty boring, doesn’t it?
No plan, no fit player and no hope. It’s really the FA Cup or the bust this season.
Right, in the alley…
WOLF DISPLAY
It doesn’t matter who you play, but giving a 2-1 halftime lead at home to anyone – at least not a team that played three days before – is simply not enough.
We ended the match yesterday with seven midfielders on the field, it’s not the behavior of a manager with a plan. That’s all we hope.
I think Jermaine Jenas summed it up best on Sunday, suggesting that Mourinho must choose a system, stick to it and see where it takes us.
Now is the stage where I can overcome a performance like this in a matter of hours. It becomes far too regular an event to ruin your week.
We crawl to the finish line and it’s just painful to watch. Someone must get us out of our misery and quickly.
BULLISH BEN
Perhaps the only player deserving of praise this weekend was little Ben Davies. Even better, he is probably the only one who deserves some form of praise for the past month and that really doesn’t mean much.
Let’s not forget, he’s a player who has been sidelined since November, has returned directly to the fold and has played four of our biggest games of the season in a row.
He is not the most glamorous, he is certainly not the most talented, but you cannot blame his pace of work.
During a spell where 74% of the goals we conceded are individual errors and set pieces, players like him are the ones we have to rely on to ensure consistency. You can’t blame him.
FA CUP OR BUST
Just when I think we have a little break from this lot, I remember I’m back at Lane on Wednesday.
It’s really not the easy assembly that appears on paper. It is estimated that 9,000 Norwich fans are going to the game and since they are currently at the bottom of the league, they will give their all to have some running.
They are a fascinating side, Norwich. I was telling someone in the game on Sunday, I think it may be the best team ever to sit down in the Premier League. They have way too much about them instead of Burnley.
That said, their victory over Leicester on Friday makes survival somewhat possible for the Canaries. Will they focus on the cup now that the dream is alive? We will see.
SUMMER CLEARANCE
I really can’t stop thinking about poor old Poch, someone who called this whole mess over a year ago.
Our lack of planning at a very high level is absolutely appalling, for which only Daniel Levy can be held responsible. Just like a struggling Sunday League defender would say, you guys need to talk to each other.
We have all seen this happen. There are far too many on this team who feel they are winning the competition and if we are not ruthless this summer it will come back to hurt us.
There are, and I’m not mistaken, about six players from the whole team that I would be disappointed to see leave this summer. The rest, I’m afraid, can come out of my club.
And I bet you can guess who I’d love to say goodbye to.
NEXT
A week of trials to come with two games to face. First, we welcome Norwich back to our fifth FA Cup game on Wednesday, and then we’ll head to Burnley on Saturday for a must-play Premier League game.
No, I don’t have the energy for that either.
Long live then. COYS.
