For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vermont Principals’ Association has established new divisional rosters for its core sports: football, basketball, baseball and softball.
The new divisions, based on enrollment numbers of girls and boys, are for a two-year cycle beginning with the 2022-23 school year. Although most schools remain in the same division, there have been several notable exceptions. They understand:
► North Country and Spaulding football teams move from Division I to D-II.
► Stowe boys football returns to D-III, where they won a seventh straight title from 2012-2018.
► Winooski’s football teams move from D-III to D-IV and Enosburg’s women’s football moves from D-II to D-III.
► The Burr and Burton girls go up to DI in basketball and softball.
► Lake Region, 2021 D-III women’s basketball champion and finalist last winter, returns to D-II.
► Baseball Spaulding, which won its first title in 32 years, moves from D-II to DI.
► D-IV Softball Power Danville formed a co-op team with Twinfield as part of a move to D-III.
[See below for the divisional breakdown by sport].
Other items to note in the lists:
► The teams are ranked in descending order of their number of girls or boys for grades 9 to 11.
► Any team with an asterisk
petitioned a division; any team with two asterisks (**) moved following a petition.
► Teams in italics are the reigning state champions.
