There has been a lot of talk surrounding air conditioning when looking at how countries are tackling the Qatari heat at the 2022 World Cup.
Now, however, this is actually causing problems for the teams, as two of the Spanish players don’t start their opener against Costa Rica due to their hotel machines.
As Luis Enrique named his squad on Wednesday afternoon, fans were surprised to see both Morata and Carvajal on the bench.
And talkSPORT commentator for the game Nigel Adderley has revealed why they are not in the starting XI.
He said: “They missed a few players, Morata and Carvajal suffering from colds due to the air conditioning around their hotel.
“None made the starting lineup.”
Instead, Chelsea’s César Azpilicueta arrived at right-back, while Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio starts up front as a false nine.
The 2010 world champions are also missing Jose Gaya at the tournament, after the Valencia left-back sprained his ankle in training and was replaced by Barca youngster Alejandro Balde.
Spain are hoping to reclaim their place at the top of world football in Qatar.
A disappointing exit to hosts Russia in 2018 and a failure to exit the groups in 2014 followed their incredible victory in 2010.
