McREGOR, Texas (KWTX) – A senior law enforcement official confirmed to KWTX that five people are dead and one suspect is in police custody, following a Thursday morning shooting in McGregor.

The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. in the 900 block of Monroe. The official told KWTX that an unidentified man shot and killed his wife and two children.

Two other victims were also found once authorities arrived at the scene from a nearby home. One woman’s body was found on the street while the other woman was found dead inside the house next door.

The shooter was reportedly shot by McGregor police and taken to hospital.

“There was a domestic disturbance which resulted in a shooting at McGregor this morning. Following this shooting, MISD went ‘into lockdown’ for approximately 15 minutes. Once we received a green light from the MPD, the lockdown has been lifted,” the superintendent added.

Lenamon said bereavement counselors would be made available at district campuses if needed.

“This is a very fluid situation. Details are coming in quickly and the severity of the situation and the response required will change several times before the end of the day.
