‘Sorry Eddie’ – Dana White shuts down claim Eddie Hearn’s boxing event could beat UFC to be first fight at magnificent Sphere arena

Dana White has dismissed reports Eddie Hearn could beat him to hosting the first combat sports event at the Sphere.

Reports in Ireland earlier this week claimed that the massive women’s boxing rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano was now in advanced talks and could ultimately take place in June.

RTE reported that the rematch is set to take place at the new MSG Sphere arena in Las Vegas, but White is adamant that is not the case.

He’s already booked the venue for this year’s UFC Mexican Independence Day show and promised “the biggest live combat sports show ever.”

However, it won’t be until September that Taylor vs Serrano 2 could hypothetically step in ahead of time and beat the UFC to become the premier combat sports event at the Sphere.

But according to White, that “doesn’t happen.”

He said at the UFC300 post-fight press conference: “I love Eddie Hearn, I consider him a friend, that doesn’t happen.

“Sorry Eddie, I love you buddy, you can go to the Sphere in October.”

The first fight between the Irish icon and the Puerto Rican star made headlines in 2022.

Taylor narrowly defeated Serrano on points in a thrilling ten-round contest.

The two initially went in different directions rather than doing an immediate rematch.

But now Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed they are in talks to stage the second fight two years after the first.

Sin City’s newest $2.3 billion venue opened late last year.

Standing 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide, this astonishing structure is a remarkable new addition to the famous Vegas skyline.

The Sphere has a capacity of 18,600 people and can be used for a variety of purposes.

It has the world’s largest LED screen outside, which has already produced a series of stunning displays.

While initially budgeted at $1.2 billion, construction costs were inflated by the pandemic and ultimately reached $2.3 billion.

Musical acts are the primary use of the venue.

The performers on the main stage are surrounded by the imposing indoor LED screen, which also surrounds most of the audience.

It helps bring a show to life with various animations, while the seats also vibrate, with the audience surrounded by machines that create additional effects such as wind and scents as part of the “4D” experience.
