According to reports, Sony intends to join Samsung and Xiaomi in launching its next flagship earlier in the calendar year than previously. As we discussed about the Galaxy S24 series, Qualcomm is expected to make the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 available just 11 months after the release of its predecessor. Thus, various Android OEMs are now expected to follow suit, with the Galaxy S24 series supposedly on track for a January 2024 introduction.
In recent years, Sony has gradually brought forward the releases of its Xperia 1 flagships. For example, while the company announced the Xperia 1 III in April, the handset remained in limbo until August of the same year. Unfortunately, delivery times have been long since for the Xperia 1 series, especially for this year’s Xperia 1 V. If the new rumors are correct, the Xperia VI could debut during MWC 2024, which the GSMA will host between February 26 and 29.
Additionally, Sony is reportedly working on more changes than a mandatory Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 upgrade. Reportedly, the company is developing the Xperia 1 VI with an improved telephoto lens that could eclipse those of other modern flagships, such as the Galaxy. S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. While the Xperia 1 V is no slouch in this department, the Xperia 1 VI is said to support 6x optical zoom with a 140mm equivalent focal length.
