Sony X80K 65-inch Google TV review: Picture perfect

The display is the most important aspect of any TV and Sony X80K is packed with features in this aspect. It has everything a TV in this price range should offer. The TV’s Triluminous Pro panel comes with Dolby Vision support, 4K X-Reality PRO, Motionflow XR, Auto HDR Mapping, Auto Picture Mode, Ambient Mode, and Light Sensor.

On paper, there is everything you can find in a TV in this price range. But let’s talk about real-world quality. We started by watching Kesaria’s song on YouTube in 4K resolution. No doubt, it’s a pretty visually rich song with lots of colors and effects. Along with that we are also watching Avengers Endgame in 4K resolution.

In our opinion, the panel used by Sony is top notch when it comes to delivering vibrancy, detail and color. Dynamic range is also impressive here. Simply put, it’s one of the best we’ve seen in this price range.

Things went to the next level as soon as we pushed Dolby Vision and HDR content onto the TV. While there are plenty of picture modes included with the TV, we were really impressed with the enhanced IMAX mode. which provided true-to-life image output. Color tones, saturation, and even brightness levels were theater-worthy, thanks to the TV’s built-in light sensor.

The TV also does a good job of upscaling lower resolution outputs to 4K resolution without adding unnecessary detail or making it look artificially enhanced.

TV performance is also smooth. Everything is smooth and stutter-free. We never experienced any lag, stutter, or lag when navigating the menu or opening or closing apps.

Another important feature of the TV is that it runs Google TV, the latest iteration of Google’s operating system for smart TVs. Its new interface is simple and well laid out, especially compared to Android TV.

Also, it comes with its own set of enhancements and enhancements such as the dedicated Discovery faucet which organizes content from multiple OTT platforms to make it easier for users to find new content for them to watch.

The TV also comes with built-in support for Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Chromecast. But the differentiator here is the inclusion of Apple HomeKit and Apple AirPlay. Few TVs offer this and we’re glad Sony included the support with the X80K TV.

The Sony X80K also comes with a brand new remote control. It is compact and simple to use. What we liked is that the keys are recessed into the body, which makes it much easier to clean and use. The remote also comes with CEC control and a universal remote feature which makes it a remote for everyone.

Audio quality is another strong point of the TV. It comes with 20W X-balanced speakers backed by Dolby ATMOS support. The TV also includes a handful of audio modes and a custom equalizer setup to allow users to tune the audio to their liking.

We decided to stick with the preset modes and in our opinion the 20W speakers are loud, clear and pack a decent amount of bass. The surround sound experience is good and voices were clear too.
