Sony Unveils ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’ Trailer #2 – Animation World Network

Sony Pictures has shared the second official trailer and a new poster for the upcoming live-action hybrid animated family adventure/comedy, Harold and the Purple Pencilin theaters August 2. Inspired by the 1955 children’s picture book written and illustrated by Crockett Johnson, the film follows adventurer Harold, played by Zachary Levi, who takes himself out of his 2D adventures and into the physical world simply by drawing it .

In the movie, his pencil is made from pure imagination…and after drawing himself directly in the real world, Harold is amazed by everything. But everything does not go as planned. Actually chastised with “What were you thinking?” during a rather disastrous children’s trip that he turned into a literal helicopter, Harold cheekily says, “No… honestly, I don’t think much about it…” Which he doesn’t.

Like the book, adventurer Hiccup can bring anything to life simply by drawing it. Harold discovers that he has a lot to learn about real life and that his trusty purple pencil might spark more hilarious detours than he thought possible. When the power of limitless imagination falls into the wrong hands, it will take all the creativity of Harold and his friends to save both the real world and his own. Harold and the Purple Pencil is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic that has captivated young readers for decades.

Directed by Carlos Saldanha, produced by John Davis and produced by Jeremy Stein and Jenny Hinkey, the film stars Levi, Lil Rel Howery, Benjamin Bottani, Jemaine Clement, Tanya Reynolds with Alfred Molina and Zooey Deschanel. The screenplay is written by David Guion and Michael Handelman, based on Johnson’s book.

Studios contributing visual effects to the production include Day For Nite, Clear Angle Studios, Folks VFX, Mammal Studios, OPSIS, Rising Sun Pictures, RSP and spin vfx.
