Sony San Diego hired a Naughty Dog developer to work on an unannounced project.
Naughty Dog environmental artist Zak Oliver has previously worked on The last of us, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and more recently The Last of Us Part 2. At Sony San Diego, he will be working as a Senior Environmental Artist on a new project that has yet to be announced.
There have been rumors that Sony San Diego will take over the Uncharted franchise for some time now but that remains to be seen. Jobs for Sony San Diego, as a senior lighting artist, require applicants to have experience with third-person action games, and Uncharted certainly fits that description.
He also indicates that the Visual Arts Service Group, which is in partnership with the new Sony studio San Diego, is responsible for film performance in Sony PlayStation franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Killzone and other iconic series.
Naughty Dog has already said that they are done with the Uncharted story, at least for now, but with the developers of Naughty Dog joining Sony’s main studio, could this new recruiting mean that a new one? Uncharted game is in preparation for PS5?
The Uncharted series is one of Sony’s biggest hits, including four games in the main story, a PSVita game, as well as a spin-off called Uncharted: Lost Legacy starring Chloe and Nadine from Uncharted 4.
The final episode of the series saw Nathan Drake embark on his latest adventure, which closed the main story after so many years. If Naughty Dog concludes Nathan Drake’s journey, could the new Uncharted be another spinoff game of the same name or something entirely new? We will have to wait and see.
