For a little while now, Sony Pictures has been using the nickname “Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters” (SPUMC) for the various Marvel films under its purview, such as “Venom” and the upcoming “Morbius”.
Well, now that name is being refreshed, with the company now shortening it to the new name of “Sony’s Spider-Man Universe” (SSU).
The first photo officially under the new banner will be “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” arriving on October 15 followed by “Morbius” on January 28, 2022.
Sony’s current contract with Marvel Studios only includes “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and an MCU movie that will be named at a later date, although that may be renewed. Sony currently retains the film rights to Spider-Man and all of its affiliated characters.
