Sony PS5 Pro will offer faster GPU, improved ray tracing and system memory: report – The Hindu

Sony is preparing to launch a brand new PlayStation 5 variant later this year, Tech Outlet The edge reported on Tuesday, revealing the specifications of the upcoming console.

The next PlayStation 5 Pro console would have a code name Trinity and will offer an improved GPU, higher CPU clock speeds, and better rendering of games with ray tracing enabled.

The report states that Sony is encouraging developers to use more graphics features such as ray tracing. In addition, games will be able to use the “Trinity Enhanced” label provided that the developers offer significant improvements.

The company hopes that developers will release games as a single package that supports the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, allowing PS5 Pro titles to be patched for better performance.

The PS5 Pro’s GPU rendering capabilities are expected to be nearly 45% faster than the standard PlayStation 5. The next console’s GPU will be larger and use faster system memory to help improve ray tracing.

The company is also said to be using an improved ray tracing architecture in the PS5 Pro, enabling up to three times faster speed compared to the regular PS5.

As for the processor, it will be the same as that of the standard PS5 but with a new mode that synchronizes it higher. The PS5 Pro reportedly has a mode that targets a CPU frequency of 3.85GHz, meaning it’s around 10% higher than the regular PS5. For reference, the standard PS5’s processor runs at 3.5GHz.

As for system memory, Sony is increasing it by 28% to 576 GB/s on the PS5 Pro compared to the standard PS5 memory which runs at 448 GB/s.

The PS5 Pro will come with the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) feature which will improve frame rates and image quality. The company has reportedly built a custom architecture for machine learning on the Playstation 5 Pro that supports 300TOPS of 8-bit computing.
