The latest version of the Sony PS3 “RPCSE3” emulator has now been updated to support AVX-512 instructions on AMD’s Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” processors.
AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” processors with AVX-512 instructions now boost Sony PS3 “RPCS3” emulator
The announcement has been made by RPCS3 that the latest version of the Sony PS3 emulator now detects and supports AVX-512 instructions featured on AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” processors out of the box. This is definitely big news since AVX-512 instructions can enable much faster performance in several console emulators, including RPCS3 itself.

As we know, Intel’s Alder Lake processors also added AVX-512 acceleration at launch and we’ve seen emulators such as RPCS3 (PlayStation 3 emulator) show up to 30% performance improvement over to standard AVX2 processors. But since then, Intel has more or less dropped AVX-512 support entirely from its consumer lineup and is only available on Xeon chips. This did not elicit a positive response from the community, but AMD, on the other hand, is definitely bringing AVX-512 support to consumers on its Ryzen 7000 & AM5 platform.
AMD itself has stated that its Zen 4 processors will deliver a 30% improvement in FP32 inference and a 2.5x increase in INT8 inference performance with support for Advanced Vertex Extensions-512 (VNNI ).
For users who invest in emulation or want to try console/portable games on their PC via emulators, it seems that AMD’s Zen 4 processors with AVX-512 will be a good choice as they can offer a huge performance improvement. It remains to be seen how Intel will respond to AMD’s AVX-512 activation on the mainstream platform and whether or not it will bring it back in future processor lines.
