Amazon UK is investigating after several customers reported opening packages intended to contain Sony’s new Playstation 5, only to find pet food.
PS5 consoles are among the most sought after items in Australia, having sold out within minutes earlier this month, and started appearing online at up to five times the retail price.
UK gamers have reported receiving anything from a box of Purina Felix cat food to a George Foreman grill – instead of the console.
“Thank you Amazon for sending me this instead of the PS5 I ordered. And then saying sorry, we can’t send you the item you actually ordered because we’re in short supply, ”the customer tweeted.
“An absolute disaster.”
“We’re sorry to hear you received the wrong item,” an Amazon customer service representative told an unhappy customer before asking them to see their “return or refund options.”
An Amazon spokesperson said Forbes that it is about “satisfying our customers, and that has not happened for a small part of these orders”.
“We are truly sorry and are investigating exactly what happened. We contact all customers who have had a problem and let us know so we can fix it.
“Anyone who has encountered a problem with an order can contact our customer service for assistance.”
