EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Sony Pictures acquired the feature film rights to gnomesbased on the horror short by Dutch filmmakers Richard Raaphorst and Ruwan Heggelman.
The project is currently in development with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine of 21 Laps producing with Raaphorst. Emily Feher supervising for 21 rounds. Heggelman will direct the feature film. Plot details are secret.
The short film had its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest 2022 and was part of the official selection of the 2022 Frontiers Platform at the Cannes Film Market. gnomes is written by Heggelman, Jasper ten Hoor and Richard Raaphorst and produced by Art Department Master Raaphorst (Frankenstein’s army).
Next up for 21 Towers is Stephen King’s 20th century adaptation The bogeyman, which they produce. This film bows in June in theaters.
Heggelman and Raaphorst are replaced by 3 Arts Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham. 21 turns is replaced by WME.
