New Delhi [India], Sep 20 (ANI): Major Indian film releases to come in the next year were announced Monday by Sony India, including “Looop Lapeta” by Taapsee Pannu, “Major” by Mahesh Babu and the director of Sabbir Khan “Nikamma”, among others.
The studio, which recently released writer-director Rensil D’Silva’s “Dial 100” and Satramm Ramani’s comedy “Helmet”, will launch four new directors this year, it confirmed in a statement.
The first of the lot will be the famous screenwriter of “Saand Ki Aankh” and “Mubarakan”, who will make his directorial debut with “Tera Kya Hoga Lovely”, starring Ileana D’Cruz and Randeep Hooda. The film will be a thrilling comedy grappling with India’s relentless obsession with fair skin.
Set against the backdrop of Haryana, the film tells the story of a dark girl tamed by the prejudices and prejudices of Indian society against dark skin. The film was written by Balwinder Singh Janjua, Rupinder Chahal and Anil Rodhan.
Next, ‘Looop Lapeta’, the official adaptation of the German film ‘Run Lola Run’ and was produced by Sony Pictures Films India, Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar and Aayush Maheshwari.
With Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin in the lead, the film was directed by commercial filmmaker Aakash Bhatia and written by Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar and Aakash Bhatia.
The big-screen underwater thriller “Dive” would then be released from the studio. Written by Renuka Kunzru, the film will showcase the human spirit and celebrate the very tenacity of the human will to survive and win, whatever the odds. Well-known commercial filmmaker Nitin Parmar will make his directorial debut with RMF.
The studio will also be releasing “Saale Aashiq”, which will mark the directorial debut of the writing duo Siddharth-Garima. The newsreel will “take a unique take on honor killings and is a young, raw and exciting romantic drama,” the studio said in the statement.
Other releases include films by veteran directors like Sabbir Khan, including ‘Nikamma’, an action drama, will star Abhimanyu, Shirley Setia and Shilpa Shetty. The film will be produced by Sony Pictures Films India and Sabbir Khan Films.
Director Umesh Shukla has joined ‘Aankh Micholi’. Featured as a family artist, the film stars Abhimanyu, Mrunal Thakur, Paresh Rawal, Sharman Joshi, Abhishek Banerjee, Vijay Raaz, Divya Dutta, Darshan Jariwala and Grusha Kapoor.
Finally, the release of “Major”, a film based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, martyred during the 11/26 attacks, has been announced. Directed by Shashi Kiran Tikka, the film stars Adivi Sesh in the lead role along with Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj and Revathi. The bilingual film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi and will also be released in Malayalam.
Despite massive upheavals in the entertainment industry over the past two years due to the COVID pandemic, the studio is poised to release an aggressive, dynamic and diverse film set. (ANI)
