Japanese electronics maker Sony recently launched its MHC-V43D party speaker in India, featuring dedicated audio drivers for high, mid and low frequencies, a top-mounted touchpad for gesture controls, lights party and wired and wireless connectivity. On paper, the Sony MHC-V43D appears to be a speaker system capable enough to light up the mood and dance to the rhythm of the house parties. That’s it? Let’s find out:

Design and features

Sony MHC-V43D speaker

Like other party speakers of its kind, the Sony MHC-V43D has a cart-like design with two wheels on the bottom which makes it easy to move despite its enormous size and heavy weight (16 kg). The speaker has rubber grips on the bottom which makes it stable on the floor. Made primarily from plastic, the speaker is rugged with a black finish that gives it an understated profile in low-light environments. It does catch the eye though, thanks to the RGB lights on its sides for the light show that draw a pattern on the floor that syncs with the beats. With almost 360 degree coverage, light reaches everywhere and turns any floor into a dance floor.

The flat top of the enclosure is where most of the controls are; There is a panel consisting of a small LED display and a bunch of buttons for various speaker functions – mega bass, volume, mic and guitar port, karaoke, sound field adjustment, etc. In the center, there is a touch area for gesture control which works for volume, play / pause, karaoke and to add DJ effects to songs.

The front of the speaker is dominated by audio drivers – two tweeters, a midrange speaker, and a subwoofer. Horn tweeters here broaden the range of sound to cover a large area; the midrange speaker amplifies voices; and the subwoofer is supported by a tapered bass reflection duct structure to concentrate the bass effect. There is a mic holder on each side to store the microphones when not in use.

Performance

The Sony MHC-V43D is a powerful device, thanks to Dolby Audio, LDAC codec support and DSEE technology. Dolby Audio lets you enjoy supported music in fine surround sound detail, which is otherwise difficult to experience. The LDAC codec improves audio performance by transmitting high resolution sound through Bluetooth connectivity. However, you must have a compatible device and music files to take advantage of this feature. Fortunately, there is DSEE technology, which improves audio quality even for the song you are listening to through music streaming services like Spotify, YouTube Music, etc.

In addition, there are several value-added features that enhance the experience. There is a “Live Sound” mode, which changes the way you usually listen to a song by adding a live concert effect.

In terms of sound quality, the speaker is impressive. It’s loud, clear, and has balanced bass and treble at all volume levels. As for utility, the speaker system comes with two mic ports that allow karaoke playback with sing-along capability, and the addition of bluetooth connectivity allows for easy connectivity with laptop, tablet , a smartphone or anything that supports bluetooth output.

Verdict

Priced at Rs 31,990, the Sony MHC-V43D is a versatile party speaker with almost no complaints. Its overpowered and built-in audio performance, RGB for light shows, and easy to use features make it a desirable choice in the party speaker segment. In addition, the addition of a microphone input and a karaoke function makes the offer even better.
