Tokyo, December 1 (Jiji Press) – Tokyo police arrested a Sony Life Insurance Co. employee on suspicion of fraudulently obtaining some 17 billion yen through an illegal money transfer from a unit foreign, sources close to the investigation said on Wednesday.
Rei Ishii, the 32-year-old employee of Sony Life Insurance, a unit of Sony Group Corp. , was arrested on suspicion of fraud. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department did not disclose whether the suspect admitted the allegations.
Ishii is believed to have defrauded $ 155 million by claiming to make a legal transfer of funds in mid-May. He allegedly transferred the money from SA Reinsurance Ltd.’s bank account. to another bank account abroad.
“We are deeply sorry to have caused such enormous problems for our customers,” Sony Life Insurance said in a statement. “We will deal strictly with the employee,” he said.
In August, Sony Life Insurance said it found an unapproved money transfer involving SA Reinsurance, a Bermuda-based company.
