Sony Pictures is said to be developing a new Tarzan film. According to the executives of the production company, they plan to adapt the century-old character to modern times. The production studio purchased the rights to the character from the estate of creator Edgar Rice Burroughs.
The character’s first film adaptation was released in 1918 and has spanned several franchises and adaptations over the years. The character recently appeared in the 2016 film The Legend of Tarzandirected by David Yates and starring Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie in the lead.
The Tarzan The story follows an orphan boy who is raised by a family of monkeys in an African jungle. While meeting a group of explorers from the outside world, he meets a girl from England named Jane and falls in love with her. Some iterations of the story follow his return to civilization.
Sony Pictures officials declined to comment on their plans for the proposed franchise, with writers, director, cast and crew expected to be announced soon.
