Yesterday we were just looking at new images and leaks regarding the Sony Xperia 1 VI. It’s a new phone that managed to go unnoticed between the big announcements from Apple and Google in May.
This morning, Phone Arena spotted an official promotional video on Sony’s YouTube for a new Xperia phone. Previous rumors predicted the phone would launch on May 17, but Sony’s teaser indicates that the next Xperia product announcement is scheduled for May 15.
However, there isn’t much else to say in the video. The Japanese electronics maker doesn’t even name the phone, simply calling it a “new Xperia product.” Based on the shape of the video, we’re pretty sure it’s a phone, and we’re betting that phone is the Xperia 1 VI.
Based on the leaks we’ve seen, Sony is expected to make several notable changes to the upcoming Xperia 1 series phone.
The screen goes from 21:9 to 19.5:9, which is similar to what’s available on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra. It’s also claimed to be 1.5 times brighter than the Xperia 1 V’s screen.
When we reviewed the Xperia 1 V, we found it to be a very good phone clearly aimed at photographers, given the capabilities of the phone’s cameras and the very specific editing apps Sony offers.
The new Xperia 1 VI appears to take a more traditional approach. Rumor has it that Sony is condensing photography apps into one user-friendly app. The cameras still seem quite powerful and their capabilities have even been slightly improved.
It was also announced that the “new Xperia product” would feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.
Based on some user responses we’ve read, the previous device may have had heating issues. The rumors we saw suggested a vapor chamber and improved heat delivery to help the phone stay cool.
Sony phones make up less than 1% of the global market, but based on the comments on the video, there are fans and they are excited about a new Xperia device.
