The Sony Alpha Awards 2021 have been launched for their sixth year.
The Alpha Awards provide a platform for photography captured on Sony Alpha cameras and lenses in Australia and New Zealand. In 2020, the competition received more than 3,000 entries.
For 2021, there are twelve categories; Astrophotography, City / Street, Compact Camera, Creative, Editorial, Landscape, Nature, Portrait, Seascape, Sports, Wedding, and Youth.
Over $ 37,000 of Sony photo equipment will be available to win at the 2021 prizes, including $ 2,000 of Sony digital imaging equipment by category, and each of the category winners with a chance to win the overall grand prize of the Sony digital imaging equipment valued at $ 10,000.
The grand prize winner will be selected from among the finalists by Scott Gray of the World Photography Organization.
In addition to the main competition, the independent youth competition will take place for the fourth time this year, on the theme “Start”. This competition aims to inspire Australian students aged 11-18 to showcase their photography skills. To participate, applicants can submit photos taken on any device, be it a camera, tablet or smartphone, and then upload them to Instagram using the hashtag # AlphaAwardsYouth21.
Entrants have a chance to win with a prize pool valued at over $ 3,500, which includes a range of Sony Alpha cameras. A website dedicated to the Concours Jeunesse page contains all the details.
All Open Category applicants can submit up to five photos through the Alpha Awards competition page. Qualifying images must be taken with a Sony Alpha camera (body and lens) or a Sony compact fixed lens camera (Compact Camera category only).
Submissions close May 31, 2021. You can see the 2020 winners here, and enter the contest here.
