Now in its sixth year, this year’s Sony Alpha Awards finalists have just been announced.
The annual awards recognize the talent of amateur and professional photographers across Australia and New Zealand, and the images they have captured using Sony Alpha cameras and lenses.
Across the 12 contest categories, more than 4,900 images were submitted to compete for the 2021 Sony Alpha Awards. From this large number of entries, a panel of 24 judges selected a final list for each category.

Announcement of the winners
From that shortlist, the CEO of the World Photography Organization, Scott Gray, will then select the winner of the 2021 grand prize.
Speaking about his role, Gray shared, “IIt has been a real pleasure to review the shortlisted entries for this year’s Sony Alpha Awards. Once again, I am very impressed by the scope of the work but also by the commitment and versatility of the photographers.
The grand prize winner will win Sony camera equipment worth AUD 10,000, and each category winner will also win Sony equipment worth AUD 2,000.
Category winners and grand prize winner will be announced via Sony Scene on July 22, 2021.

Autonomous young people Competition
In addition, two young Australian photographers, Eric Wu and Jarvis Smallman, were selected as finalists for the independent Youth competition. This standalone competition was created to inspire Australian students aged 11-18 to showcase their photography skills.
To participate, applicants simply had to submit photos captured using any device, be it a camera, tablet or smartphone, and then upload the photos. on Instagram using the hashtag # AlphaAwardsYouth21.
For the Youth contest, there is a prize pool valued at over $ 3,500 which includes a range of Sony Alpha camera equipment.
