“I feel like this fight had to happen,” Renfro said. “I lost all possible paths. I was robbed by dashboards; I lost via submission and got clipped. I’ve suffered through all the lowest lows in the sport by not getting paid well, not having sparring partners, losing fights I should have won, and just losing fights. It’s time for me to stand on the highest peaks, and right now my skill level is at its peak.

After suffering back-to-back losses, Renfro made some changes to his training that he says have set him on the right path to success. With Tiger Schulmann’s gritty base in his DNA, Renfro visited gyms across the country to sharpen every tool in his arsenal.

There has never been a lack of confidence in Renfro, but after dropping a weight class and testing himself against the best fighters in every time zone in the continental United States, Renfro is as confident and relaxed as he is. he never was.

“I changed the training a bit more,” Renfro said. “I traveled a lot more and met new people and kind of networked. I still train as hard as I always have, actually harder, but just smarter too, and I mix up training partners. The plan is to go down. I’m going down to 155. This fight is 160. I was supposed to fight a guy at 155 but they couldn’t find a guy in time, so I changed my style a bit. I’m going to crush these little guys.

Potholes still remain a thorn in Renfro’s side, and he hasn’t changed much in that regard, but every *noise* hurts a little less these days, knowing the trajectory he’s on. find.

“Everywhere I go people tell me I’m the future of the sport,” Renfro said. “I feel like I’m the next must-have guy in the sport, period.”
