SNL: Emily Blunt Crushes Ryan Gosling’s Monologue in ‘All Too Well’ Duet – TheWrap

It’s been nine months since “Barbie” hit theaters, and barely a month since Ryan Gosling performed “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars. On Saturday night, the actor used his “SNL” monologue to officially break character — with help from Taylor Swift and Emily Blunt.

As he took the stage at 30 Rock – marking his third time as host – Gosling explained that he was there to promote his upcoming film “The Fall Guy,” in which he stars alongside Emily Blunt.

“So don’t worry, I’m not going to make jokes about Ken,” he promised. “Because it’s not funny. Ken and I had to break up. We have gone too far.

Gosling was visibly torn about leaving the Mattel doll behind, although he managed to slip in a few raunchy jokes that Ken would certainly appreciate (or perhaps not understand).

“When you play a character that tough for that long, letting go feels like a breakup,” Gosling explained.

So, to really commit to the breakup, Gosling sat down at the piano and started singing a new version of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well,” with lyrics based on Ken. Naturally, Gosling had his Fauxjo Mojo Mink coat on hand to play with.

But as he fully immersed himself in the music, none other than Emily Blunt herself crashed onto the stage, berating Gosling for not being able to let go of the character.

“Guys, I don’t mean to be harsh, but Ryan, you need to move on,” she said. “It’s time.”

She even hit his back with a prop chair, showing how cool stunts can be. But Gosling appealed to Blunt in terms she would understand, asking if she didn’t feel just as deeply about saying goodbye to her “Oppenheimer” character.

Turns out that’s what she did, so she also started singing her own lyrics to the Swift song. Eventually, the two finished the performance together, blowing out a Ken candle to say goodbye.

You can watch the full monologue in the video above.
