A second wildfire broke out in Boulder County on Sunday, forcing the town of Ward to evacuate.
The Lefthand Canyon fire burned over 100 acres after starting near the 14000 block of Lefthand Canyon Drive.
Homes north of Ward and the Gold Hill area are under evacuation order. At around 3 p.m., the orders were expanded to include homes in Sunshine Canyon. Houses north of the 10,000 block of the promenade on the left should also be evacuated.
The Lefthand Canyon fire escape point is the Nederland Community Center located at 750 CO-72.
Cattle can be housed at the Gilpin County Fair, at 230 Norton Drive in Black Hawk.
About 145 residences are scheduled to be evacuated, according to the Boulder Office of Emergency Management. Evacuation alerts were sent in error to some residents in some areas not close to the fire, including Longmont and Louisville, the office said. Those who are not in the immediate vicinity of the fire do not need to evacuate.
“We are using [the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] send alerts because phone lines are down and power outages occur, ”the office said in a statement. “We apologize for any confusion or panic caused by the alerts. We do our best to get the information out to as many people as possible, but unfortunately the system was not working perfectly.
Road closures in the region include:

- Canyon Drive left at Sawmill Road
- CR 100 at Peak to Peak Highway

The blaze was reported shortly before 1 p.m. and was “pushing upwards” due to high winds, The Daily Camera reported.
