Simon Jordan thinks anyone wanting to buy Manchester United should part with £5billion.
It comes after reports emerged on Wednesday that billionaire businessman Jim Ratcliffe declared his interest in buying the club, should the current owners, the Glazer family, choose to sell.
Ratcliffe – a self-made billionaire – is worth an estimated £12billion, making him Britain’s richest man. It owns INEOS, the fourth largest chemical engineering company in the world.
The 69-year-old already has a hand in football after his takeover from Ligue 1 side Nice in 2019 and Swiss Super League club Lausanne-Sport in 2017.
Ratcliffe, who was born in Greater Manchester and is an avowed Manchester United supporter, tabled a last-minute £4.25billion bid to buy Chelsea this summer but had his offer turned down as the man American businessman Todd Boehly successfully took over the club.
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes there is likely some truth to reports of Ratcliffe’s interest and that the Glazers are said to be open to selling the club.
“Manchester United are most likely on the line,” Jordan told talkSPORT of Ratcliffe’s interest in acquiring the club.
“Everyone knows the Glazers will sell. The Glazers will sell if someone writes a check consistent with what they want in return.
Jordan insists Manchester United are worth more than the amount American businessman Todd Boehly paid for Chelsea earlier this year, citing the global appeal of the 20-time league champions, which has yet to decreases.
He said: “If anyone is able to come in and write a check for £5billion because don’t forget Manchester United is a wonderful brand in sport, it’s arguably the biggest brand in sport. from the moment.
“I think it’s somewhere between £4bn or £5bn if Chelsea are at £2.5bn, because Manchester United are much, much bigger. Not on the football pitch, but it’s not just about football dealings. It is a globally influential brand that was listed on the New York Stock Exchange for various reasons.
