The Sierra Canyon boys’ basketball team received the No.1 seed in the CIF South Section Open Division overall standings on Sunday afternoon, giving the Trailblazers (12-0) an advantage on the field for the three matches of Pool A starting Friday against No.8 St. Bosco.
The next two games will be on June 1 against 5th Ribet Academy and June 4 against 4th Etiwanda.
No.7 seed Harvard-Westlake will be in Pool B, meaning the Wolverines (15-3) will travel all three games against No.2 Corona Centennial, No.3 Mater Dei and No.3 ° 6 Damien.
This is the eighth consecutive year that Sierra Canyon has been selected for the Open Division. The Trailblazers have won two of the last three Open Division titles. This is the second consecutive season for Harvard-Westlake.
The Open Division gives top ranked teams an edge on the field throughout the playoffs. Due to COVID-19, the ICF announced that all championships will be held at the origin venues. The seed of the Open Division Finals will host on June 11.
Heritage Christian (18-6), a mainstay on the division’s open year-round watchlist, won the No.1 seed and a Division 1 first round and will await the winner of Anaheim Canyon and Loyola Friday at home in the second. round.
Chaminade (14-3), seeded No. 2, will host Bonita on Wednesday in the first round. Oak Park will host St. Francis for a fun home doubles first-round match. Valencia will travel to Oxnard and Santa Clarita Christian will host Brentwood.
In Division 2AA, Village Christian welcomes Campbell Hall on Wednesday.
West Ranch, the Foothill League champion, is the third seed in Division 2A. Corey Cofield, Andrew Meadow and freshman James Evans are all set for a deep race.
