José Mourinho was never going to return quietly to Italy.
The Portuguese had been struck off by many experts in the game after his failed stint at Tottenham.
The truth is, Mourinho is at the box office and needs to be kept at the highest level of management for as long as possible.
Winner or loser, the 58-year-old offers entertainment like no other and his brief stint at the helm of Roma is proof of that.
He led the Giallorossi to six wins in six matches as they lead the Serie A table.
Not only that, but he was pictured eating pizza on a train after a big win and most recently charged on the sideline to celebrate a dramatic Stephan El Shaarawy winner over Sassuolo in the embers dying from the clash at the Stadio Olimpico.
All of these episodes might have been expected, but Mourinho’s bond with Tammy Abraham took everyone by surprise.
The 23-year-old’s career has been given a new lease of life after his move to the Italian capital.
He has scored two goals and added two assists in five matches and it’s no surprise he was the target of Mourinho’s mad run to the sideline last weekend.
Abraham was an outcast in England at Chelsea and just like Mourinho, he has shown that a change of scenery can bring good the world over to a rocky career.
Mourinho was a hero the last time he was in Italy, leading Inter Milan to the title and an incredible Champions League triumph.
It remains to be seen whether his sublime debut in Rome continues, but it looks like he did for Italian football.
He wants a group of players who will shed blood and tears on the pitch for him.
In Abraham, he’s got just that.
