She-Hulk: Lawyer is already becoming something quite unique for the MCU. Unlike previous TV shows like Wanda Vision Where Ms. Marvel, this seems like the best example of an MCU sitcom. It also looks like it will intricately bring together pre-existing and new characters from across the franchise.
Mark Ruffalo is back, along with Benedict Wong and Charlie Cox, joined by Tatianna Maslany, Jameela Jamil and more. There are supposedly celebrity cameos, including Megan Thee Stallion and David Otunga, and even more behind the scenes. Many of the lead actors have been in popular, beloved, and/or award-winning projects spanning film, television, and live theater.
Tatiana Maslany
black orphan
to cross She-Hulk: Lawyer in the lead role is Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters AKA She-Hulk. Many fans have already deemed it the perfect cast, marking Maslany’s impressive blend of comedy and drama, which is best exemplified in his Emmy-winning performance in Black orphan. In it, Maslany played Sarah Manning and all sorts of genetic clones, each with distinct personalities and physiques.
Fans are very excited about Maslany’s characterization of She-Hulk, especially when recent trailers and TV spots have shown her breaking through the fourth wall – an element of the comic that some fans had theorized would be incorporated. As She-Hulk, Maslany could very well become an integral figure in the evolution of the MCU throughout the multiverse saga, much like Shang-Chi, Loki, Scarlet Witch, and Ms. Marvel.
Marc Ruffalo
Projector
She-Hulk: Lawyer marks Mark Ruffalo’s ninth appearance in the MCU, finally getting close to fellow Avengers Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth. Hopefully this could lead to his own solo movie. While nothing like that was announced at Comic-Con recently, maybe that could change on D23 and a Ruffalo-led Hulk movie could fill one of the empty Phase Six slots.
Prior to joining the MCU, Ruffalo already had an impressive career on screen and on stage, earning nominations for a Tony Award and an Academy Award. He has since continued that trend, earning another Oscar nomination for 2015. Projector alongside fellow MCU veterans Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, John Slattery and Stanley Tucci.
Jameela Jamil
The right place
Many fans were surprised by the casting of Jameela Jamil as Titania in She-Hulk: Lawyer. She was an unexpected but very intriguing choice for a role in the MCU, especially as an antagonist like Titania who could stick around for more than one season and potentially get the anti-hero treatment like Loki. Jamil is, of course, best known for her hilarious role as the pretentious but clumsy Tahani Al-Jamil in The right place.
What might surprise people is that Jameela Jamil is actually no stranger to major franchises, as she has a long history in voice acting, having appeared most recently in DC League of Super Pets as Wonder Woman. She also voiced recurring and main characters in harley quinn, Star Trek: Prodigyand Jurassic World: Cretaceous Camp.
Tim Roth
pulp Fiction
For over a decade The Incredible Hulk was largely ignored as part of the MCU – that is, until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings briefly brought back Emil Blonsky AKA Abomination. She-Hulk: Lawyer goes even further, since Tim Roth is back in the main cast. It has already been confirmed that he will be one of She-Hulk’s clients as she leads a new superhuman law division.
Roth can be recognized for so many different roles in both film and television. He is a popular collaborator of Quentin Tarantino, having starred in four of his films, including pulp Fiction. In fact, his role as burglar Pumpkin was specifically written with Roth in mind after he and Tarantino previously worked together on reservoir dogs.
Gonzaga with ginger
space force
Ginger Gonzaga stars as Nikki Ramos, Jennifer’s best friend and colleague in She-Hulk: Lawyer. Interestingly, she appears to be an original creation from the show, so it’s exciting to think what this could lead to. Nikki seems to be supportive of Jennifer’s life as She-Hulk, likely acting as her closest confidante and possibly possibly her Ned Leeds-like “chair wife.”
Gonzaga has been on several television shows, including Mixology, Destroyand space force. In the latter, she parodies Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as Anabela Ysidro-Campos in a few episodes. She was also part of the cast of the films Ted and Bad therapy.
Benoit Wong
Martain
While Wong is a relatively minor character in the comics, fans are excited to see him play a larger role in the MCU as Sorcerer Supreme and She-Hulk: Lawyer is part of. Benedict Wong also starred in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Abomination training, and now that he’s in She-Hulk: Lawyer, this begs the question of what he’s up to – with some fans theorizing he might be involved in creating the Thunderbolts or a new Avengers team. Either way, the next step is to give her her own Disney+ series.
Benedict Wong has been a part of many other TV shows including Marco Polo on Netflix and Lethal class on SYFY. On the non-MCU movie side, he might be better recognized as part of the all-star cast of The Martian along with fellow MCU actors Matt Damon, Sebastian Stan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, and more.
Charlie Cox
Stardust
Among the many announcements and reveals at Comic-Con recently, a new trailer for She-Hulk: Lawyer was shown, which ended with a popular and familiar character flipping across the screen. After appearing in Spider-Man: No Coming Home, Charlie Cox is finally back in uniform as Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil. Interestingly, many fans noticed that he was wearing his yellow and red costume from the comics as opposed to his classic red costume, which has already led to theorization that daredevil still exists outside of the main MCU continuity – so Daredevil: Born Again could be something completely new.
Cox’s breakout role was in 2007 with Stardust, playing the lead role of Tristan opposite Claire Danes, Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. He then appeared in The theory of everything and Boardwalk Empire. With Daredevil: Born Againand his upcoming involvement in other TV shows – which will hopefully spill over into movies – it looks like his future will be very MCU-centric.
Renee Elise Goldsberry
hamilton
Broadway fans have something to look forward to She-Hulk: Lawyer while Renée Elise Goldsberry plays Jennifer’s colleague, Mallory Book. Unlike Nikki Ramos, Mallory features in the comics. She’s a lawyer like Jenn, also representing superhumans, but she sees her as a rival and even tries to bring Jennifer down at one point. This seems likely to result in She-Hulk: Lawyer for her only adversaries cannot be those against whom she would fight physically.
Renée Elise Goldsberry is perhaps best known for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in hamilton, which earned him a Tony Award and an Emmy Award nomination. She is also part of the main cast of the series Peacock, Girls5eva. Hopefully Goldsberry can show off her vocal talents in She-Hulk: Lawyer.
Josh Segarra
Arrow
There are still many mysteries surrounding She-Hulk: Lawyer, including the roles of some actors. Josh Segarra’s character has still not been confirmed, but he can be seen briefly in a trailer, which apparently features him as a friend and/or co-worker of Jenn. He could play Augustus Pugliese, a lawyer who develops an unrequited crush on She-Hulk, however, Segarra would also make a fun hero/villain character, and he has the experience to back it up.
He played Adrian Chase AKA Prometheus, the main antagonist of season 5 of Arrow, and he’s still considered one of the best Arrowverse villains to date. More recently, Segarra would probably be best recognized for his roles in The two others and AJ and the Queen.
