Have you ever wished MacOS could have different settings for the Dock, when connected to an external display, rather than just using the built-in display? Or that macOS would know when your MacBook Pro is connected to an external display and automatically adjust the positioning or size of the Dock?
HiDock, a free third-party utility that lets you set different Dock settings for different display configurations on a Mac, does just that.
For example, perhaps you want the Dock to be tiny and automatically hide on the internal screen of a MacBook Pro, but larger and still visible on the left side of the screen when that same MacBook Pro is connected to a 30-inch external display. HiDock does just that.
HiDock is free to download from the developers’ website and you can customize it according to your preferences quite easily. Simply open the app and adjust the settings to determine how you want the Dock to behave and where it should appear on screens in use.
It’s worth remembering that you can easily bring up the Dock on an external or internal display on a Mac by swiping down twice from the bottom of the screen (or more, if the Dock is on the left or right side). It can also be useful to set the primary display to the Mac, which allows you to tell macOS which display is the default display for displaying messages, as well as for the Dock, menu bar, and other items to display.
Kudos to 512pixels for bringing this handy little app for Mac to our attention.
