We’re obsessed with watching Selena Gomez on TikTok, and we know we’re not alone. From her hilarious take on trends from lip-syncing to beauty tips, the 30-something makes it easy to be a strong, proud person. The only downside? A TikTok video only lasts a few moments and we want more from our queen.
So when we learned the ‘Lose You to Love You’ singer was set to be involved in the 20th Century Studios reboot of the 1980s hit A hard worker, we literally couldn’t contain ourselves. So what’s going on? Well, according to a Deadline report, multihyphenate develops a A hard worker remake for the production company with Diary of a Future President creator Ilana Peña adapting the script. Not too shabby (and by that we mean “amazing”).
Just to update you on the story here, the original A hard worker starred Melanie Griffith as Tess, a working-class secretary with business ambitions. When her boss (Sigourney Weaver) breaks her leg, Tess takes advantage of his absence to pose as her. She then forms a partnership with Jack Trainer (Harrison Ford), who is threatened by the discovery of her ruse. The film was a huge hit at the time and racked up six Oscar nominations.
Gomez is in final negotiations to produce the film, which was originally directed by Mike Nichols, but it’s still unclear if we’ll actually see her onscreen, as casting details have yet to be released.
According Deadline, “20th Century sees this as timely ownership and sees Gomez as the perfect partner for the project,” which is expected to land on Hulu. The original is largely an ’80s relic, but there are plenty of opportunities to modernize the story, especially if Gomez and Peña explore the perspective of Latina women in the workforce. We can’t wait to see how the women perform the office romantic comedy.
Where she has time for it all, however, we have no idea, as she also produces and stars in the HBO reality show. Selena + Chef, a pandemic-inspired series in which the closeted actor works with master chefs to hone his culinary skills (season 4 is set to premiere August 20, 2022). And in the meantime, the singer is reportedly working on her rock climbing skills in preparations for In the shadow of the mountain.
Selena Gomez, is there anything you can’t do?
