The Calm Down singer was diagnosed with lupus in 2014 and was forced to undergo a kidney transplant in 2017 due to the disease.

In an interview with Jay Shetty, Selena spoke about loving others and loving herself, saying: ‘Being at times in my life, whether it’s my health or my personal life, my friendships, my relationships, I feel like I’m giving myself completely to something, it’s just the best way I can love.’
She added: “But I never wanted the pain that I endured to put some kind of guard and armor on me, if you will.” And I never, I never let that happen because I still believe, and I still hope, I hope for love, and I hope for healing, and I hope for change.
Gomez went on to say that she “would rather keep breaking my heart than feel nothing at all,” and described how a “super public” breakup helped her gain confidence.
