Players from state championship teams have received much recognition on the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Women’s Basketball Team.

There were nine first-team selections and 19 overall state champions across the three teams and one honorable mention in each class.

No state team had more than one player selected to the first team, but Class 7A champion Hoover — led by Gatorade State Player of the Year Reniya Kelly — Class 4A winner Prattville Christian and Class 3A champion Trinity each had three players selected.

The team was selected by the Alabama Sports Writers Association prep committee with coaching nominations.

All first team selections are eligible to be named Class Player of the Year and Miss Basketball. Three finalists for player of the year in each ranking will be announced on Wednesday.

Players of the Year, Super 5 teams as well as Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball will be announced at a banquet April 6 in Montgomery. The banquet is sponsored by Alfa and the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.
