Netflix’s Dolly Parton Tribute Concert is now live, featuring some of the planet’s greatest artists channeling their love for a true country legend. And you can preview it here.
Sharing a cheerful Miley Cyrus and Shawn Mendes clip covering Dolly’s iconic duet with Kenny Rogers – “Islands In the Stream” – it’s just a taste of what equates to almost an hour of great tunes, and recognition of one of the most generous superstars in music.
As part of a tribute concert that highlighted Parton’s charitable work as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year, the clip finds two of the most recognizable voices of the modern era reinventing an absolute classic. Cyrus and Mendes sing alongside producer Mark Ronson (who plays guitar), and with the song’s sweet influence in full effect, it’s just as emotional as ever.
Standing side by side on a sleek black stage, their duo are full of appreciation for a true icon of the country – and a clue to what the rest of the night has been like. Cyrus is part of the Parton family, since Dolly is in fact his godmother. And Mendes clearly goes all out in the emotional anthem, arm in arm, his chirping voice in some ways reminiscent of Parton’s famous songbird style.
Hosted by Little Big Town and also featuring performances by Chris Stapleton, Katy Perry and more, the show was taped ahead of the 2019 Grammys and intended to celebrate Parton’s continued philanthropy. Capture the shimmering night on film, Dolly Parton: a tribute to MusiCares is now available and available for streaming only on Netflix.
