Many are excited about Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker III, but he’s currently working through an issue that could hold him back for a while. On Tuesday, Walker did not practice with the team. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters afterwards that he was suffering from a hernia “thing”.
“Ken has a small hernia he’s been working on and we have to get through it,” Carroll said, by ESPN. So I don’t know what to tell you yet, but it’s something you can witness and all that…”
“We just have to make sure he’s okay before the first game, that’s what we’re aiming for.”
Walker rushed five times for 19 yards in the Seahawks’ 32-25 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night, and also caught a pass for 11 yards. He’s expected to play a part in this new Seahawks offense, as he rushed for a whopping 1,636 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2021 for Michigan State. This earned him the Doak Walker Award – which is given annually to the top running back in college football.
Carroll explained how impressed he was with Walker roundness, which got potential fantasy football owners and Seahawks fans excited. However, that herniation is a problem that could slow his development, and based on Carroll’s comments, it looks like the Sept. 12 season opener against the Denver Broncos could also be in jeopardy.
