Scotland’s promotion to UEFA Nations League A is only a reward, with the Tartan Army “starting to see the results of their efforts”.
A hard-fought 0-0 draw against Ukraine in Krakow was enough to clinch top spot in Group B1, ensuring they’ll mix it up with Europe’s biggest teams next campaign.
The promotion also guarantees Scotland a place in the Euro 2024 play-offs should they need it, as well as a place in Pot 2 for the qualifying draw when it takes place next year.
With England suffering relegation from League A after a disappointing campaign, it only goes to show how impressive Steve Clarke’s side have been as they continue their remarkable rise in the world of football.
Scotland Women captain Rachel Corsie was watching the clash with Ukraine for talkSPORT 2 and expressed her belief that something special was going on.
Corsie said: “It was an incredible performance, the absolute definition of professional.
“The way this whole team has grown collectively, there’s just a feeling about the group when they’re together.
“From what you see on social media, you just get the feeling that the team loves being together, even the players who aren’t playing.
“The players want to be involved in this and now you’re starting to see the results and see them happening consistently.
“They love playing for their country and that’s something that we missed for a while because we weren’t getting the performances and results that we were capable of but now we’re getting them regularly.
“It’s such a good time to follow the team and be a fan and we can just look forward and enjoy the fantastic games ahead.”
Jason Cundy also shared his congratulations on Scotland’s achievement, telling the Sports Bar: “Bravo.
“Not so long ago, the big game they had to win was against Ukraine in the play-offs to get to the World Cup.
“I thought they would, I thought they would beat them.
“They beat them and played really well over the weekend and then played really well on Thursday night.
“Ukraine had chances but lacked that real advantage, but congratulations. They don’t have much to cheer about, old Scots, do they?
Responding to Jamie O’Hara’s comments that they embarrassed England, Cundy responded by saying: “England embarrassed themselves mate!
“Scotland must not do it, England are embarrassed.”
