VERNON KOEKEMOER’S FAILED HIP SURGERY
Coetzee told Maroela Media that Koekemoer had problems with his right hip in 2018. The internet sensation had his hip replaced in January 2019, but the surgery didn’t go as planned.
The doctor allegedly made a mistake during the operation and admitted to having put on the wrong prosthesis. As a result, Koekemoer couldn’t walk without crutches.
He was prescribed antibiotics and Coetzee said Koekemoer’s teeth had started to fall out and that was the start of other health issues for him. Coetzee, who has worked with Koekemoer for nine years, said it would take a miracle to save him.
“[The doctor] stole five years of our lives. He ruined his life,” Coetzee said.
WHERE IS THE INTERNET SENSATION NOW?
According to the Boksburg announcer, Koekemoer is still on antibiotics and receiving treatment to improve blood circulation. Coetzee added that the internet sensation was waiting for a bed at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for another surgery.
“At least he can eat, drink and talk now. However, he still cannot walk. We just hope he can find a bed in Charlotte Maxeke soon,” she said.
A Back a Buddy campaign was created to help fund Koekemoer’s medical bills.
