Samsung’s 48 awards include Best in Show as well as many additional awards for creativity in interactive design, advanced design concept, and sustainable design
Samsung Electronics today announced that it has won 48 world-renowned International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2020 awards, including one Gold, four Silvers, four Bronzes and one Best-in-Show.
The 2020 IDEA Awards for Samsung not only include the best design awards for creative and cutting edge creations, but products spanning multiple categories, showcasing Samsung’s excellence in mainstream lifestyle designs with a sleek aesthetic. , as well as interactive and sustainable designs that reflect social values. and a broad spectrum of professional expertise.
IDEA, hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), has been held annually since 1980. Widely regarded as the most influential design award in North America, IDEA considers design innovation, benefit for the user and the benefit to society as part of its criteria for the selection of its winners.
BESPOKE Family Hub UX won the gold medal for delivering user-centric experience and innovation. Based on consumer-centric information, UX allows users to share and create photos and recipes through the refrigerator screen. In addition, connectivity with mobile applications allows consumers to enjoy remote access regardless of their location.
The BESPOKE refrigerator won the Silver Award for its customizable modular design that allows users to choose the colors, materials and types of refrigerator to suit individual lifestyles and preferences. BESPOKE Refrigerator has already won a Gold award at the International Forum (iF) Design Award 2020.
The 2020 IDEA Jury awarded Samsung the “ Best-in-Show ” award, a special award for BESPOKE Family Hub UX and BESPOKE Refrigerator, recognizing Samsung’s achievements in consumer-centric design excellence.
Samsung’s upcycling solution for TV packaging received a Silver award for its customizable packaging box. Samsung has embraced recycling in the packaging materials of its lifestyle TVs – The Frame, The Serif and The Sero. Product packaging was designed to encourage consumers to recycle boxes and create innovative small pieces of furniture that meet individual needs, such as a cat tower or TV stand. The packaging won the CES Innovation Awards 2020 for its innovative concept, its contribution to environmental protection and its awareness of recycling and upcycling.
In addition, Q950TS, an 8K QLED TV that maximizes screen immersion with Infinity Screen, and The Serif Visual Identity System, which exemplifies sophisticated visual strategies targeting the millennial generation, also won Silver awards.
The following Bronze awards have been recognized: Galaxy Fold, a foldable smartphone that offers a new experience; Infinite Line ™ oven, an integrated kitchen that offers an elegant high-end design; The Sero visual identity system which demonstrates bold and intense graphics with new branding visual strategies targeting the millennial generation; and inclusive IoT, an advanced design concept using AI sound recognition to help people with hearing loss.
“Design increasingly values the interplay between products and user experiences,” said Dontae Lee, executive vice president and head of the enterprise design center at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to deliver meaningful customer experiences and enduring values through innovative technologies and differentiated designs.”
The IDEA 2020 ceremony took place practically on September 16. The International Design Conference is also being held virtually for two days from September 17-18. Felix Heck, vice president and director of Samsung Design Europe, is scheduled to make a presentation titled ‘Design for Resonance’ at the event.
