To enable these companies to take full advantage of this technology, Samsung Electronics today announced the availability of its PM9A1, the world’s first qualified NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD client.
Designed specifically for OEM applications and incorporating Samsung’s NAND, controller and firmware into the compact M.2 form factor, the PM9A1 is the first device of its kind to be integrated into an OEM laptop computer.
Like Samsung’s well-received 980 Pro SSD (the first PCIe Gen 4 product to ship to retail channels), the PM9A1 offers sequential read speeds of 7000MB / s for 50% faster file operations and increases file speeds. 50% random read speeds at 1000K IOP for better system response. These ultra-fast data transfer speeds make the PM9A1 ideally suited for a wide range of demanding applications, enabling the growth of a number of emerging applications.

The PM9A1’s ease of integration into workstations, desktops and laptops and its optimized energy efficiency make it suitable for a range of applications, including high performance systems. All key components, DRAM, V-NAND and Elpis controller are developed specifically by Samsung. The PM9A1 uses the sixth generation of V-NAND, which offers 20% faster read and write speed and 15% lower power consumption compared to the previous generation. The drive is also equipped with advanced thermal control technology that allows it to perform well in cold temperatures and prevent overheating, which is especially important during heavy workload use.
The PM9A1 ships on select devices from HP and other major PC manufacturers, with wider availability starting in the second quarter.
