Samsung has officially launched the 990 Pro, its latest PCIe Gen4 SSD, in Malaysia. Starting today, the ultra-fast M.2 SSD is available for purchase at all authorized and participating Samsung resellers and their respective stores.
The 990 Pro is an improvement over Samsung’s previous generation 980 Pro NVMe Gen4 SSD. In terms of specifications, the Korean brand claims that its sequential read and write speeds can reach 7450MB/s and 6900MB/s respectively. Additionally, the SSD is available in 1TB and 2TB capacities, with the same speeds apply to both.
When it comes to random read and write performance, the 990 Pro is capable of up to 1.4 million IOPS and 1.55 million IOPS, respectively, on 4 KB QD32, while its performance QD1 4K read and write processors are rated at 22,000 IOPS and 80,000 IOPS, respectively.

Other specs for the 990 Pro SSDs include that the storage chips soldered onto the M.2 PCB use Samsung’s 3-bit MLC V-NAND, while the cache memory modules are low-power 2GB DDR4 SDRAM. Additionally, it also supports 256-bit AES encryption, making it a viable option for consumers in the market for a storage format with an added layer of protection.
In another register and in addition to the capacity options, Samsung also offers the 990 Pro with or without a heatsink, designed specifically for the SSD. On the other hand and due to its super-fast transfer speeds, the SSD is not only good for PC use, Samsung also considers it compatible with Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) console. As an added bonus, the slimline heatsink also incorporates a single strip RGB LED, which we believe gives desktop users additional layers of aesthetic appeal.
At the time of writing, Samsung Malaysia has not provided the local starting price for the 990 Pro. We contacted the brand about this.
