Galaxy Tab A7 vs. Galaxy S6 Lite: Design

The Galaxy Tab A7 (9.8 x 6.2 x 0.3 inch, 1 pound) and Galaxy S6 Lite (9.6 x 6.3 x 0.3 inch, 1 pound) are stylish and lightweight tablets. Both slates are thin at just 0.3 inches thick, but the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is a wider shade and the Galaxy Tab A7 is slightly longer.

The design cues of the Galaxy Tab A7 and Galaxy S6 Lite exude polished, utilitarian vibes with sophisticated metallic finishes. A small, bold Samsung logo is embossed on both slates. Samsung tablets have 8 megapixel camera modules in the shape of a circle in the upper left corner of the back panel. The Galaxy Tab A7 houses its front-facing 5-megapixel camera on the right bezel, while the Galaxy S6 Lite wears it on the top bezel.

Mid-sized bezels surround the 10.4-inch screen of the Galaxy Tab A7 and Galaxy S6 Lite, providing ample territory to grip tablets. Both slates come in three colors: dark gray, silver, and gold for the Galaxy Tab A7 and Oxford gray, angora blue, and chiffon pink for the Galaxy S6 Lite.

Galaxy Tab A7 vs Galaxy S6 Lite: Display

The Galaxy Tab A7 and Galaxy S6 Lite are equipped with 10.4 inches, 2000 x 1200 pixels poster. Samsung tablet displays won’t break any records and they aren’t as visually appealing as high-end OLED displays, but they’re both crisp and colorful enough for a pleasing viewing experience.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Screen (Image credit: Future)

The Galaxy Tab A7 is slightly more colorful than the Galaxy S6 Lite. The Galaxy Tab A7 covered 72% of the DCI-P3 color gamut while the Galaxy S6 Lite only covered 70% of the color space. The Galaxy Tab A7 got a Delta-E score of 0.23 (the closer to zero, the better), which means its display is more color accurate than the Galaxy S6 Lite’s screen (0.31) .

Redeeming itself from utter annihilation in the display battle, the Galaxy S6 Lite offers a brighter 435 nits screen. The Galaxy Tab A7 can only produce 329 nits of brightness. If you are an outdoor tablet user, the Galaxy S6 Lite is the best option for you.

Galaxy Tab A7 vs. Galaxy S6 Lite: Audio

The Galaxy Tab A7 has an advantage over the Galaxy S6 Lite when it comes to audio. The Galaxy Tab A7 features a quad Dolby Atmos speaker system, delivering an immersive audio experience with surround sound.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7

When I listened to Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” on the Galaxy Tab A7, the sound filled my mid-sized test space; the sound was crisp, clear and loud. When playing games and streaming movies, you often risk getting “lost” in the content due to the mesmerizing surround sound effect.

The Galaxy S6 Lite, on the other hand, has an AKG two-speaker system with Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound technology. Listening to The Killers, the voice of Brandon Flowers on the Galaxy 6 Lite filled our room without a hint of distortion, but there is some tension in the highs at maximum volume. Overall, both Samsung tablets provide a satisfying sound experience.

Winner: Galaxy tab a7

Galaxy Tab A7 vs Galaxy S6 Lite: performance

The Galaxy Tab A7 is powered by Qualcomm SM6115 Snapdragon 662 processor and 3GB of RAM. The Galaxy S6 Lite is electrified by the Exynos 9611 processor and 4 GB of RAM. To test the multitasking prowess of tablets, we flooded the slates with a flood of applications. Samsung tablets have juggled the influx of applications well. Both experienced brief slowdowns, but they were negligible.

In the Geekbench 5.0 overall performance test, the Galaxy Tab A7 crushed the Galaxy S6 Lite with a score of 1405. The Galaxy S6 Lite lagged behind the Galaxy Tab A7 with a score of 1291.

When we took the JetStream 2.0 test, a benchmark that examines web browsing performance, the Galaxy Tab A7 delivered a score of 32.8 while the Galaxy S6 Lite lagged behind with a score of 27.8.

Winner: Galaxy tab a7

Galaxy Tab A7 vs Galaxy S6 Lite: camera

Both Samsung tablets come with 5-megapixel front cameras and 8-megapixel rear cameras. The Galaxy Tab A7 is different, however, in that it houses its 5-megapixel camera on the full-sized bezel as opposed to the top bezel. This position orients video calls and landscape selfies. It’s an odd location, but it’s advantageous for video conferencing meetings, as most video calling platforms are optimized for landscape-oriented videos.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A7

Both cameras feature facial recognition technology for biometric authentication security, which is a surprising benefit to find on budget tablets. The Galaxy Tab A7 face unlock feature worked for me 100% of the time, but for our editor Phillip Tracy the Galaxy S6 Lite face unlock success rate was 70%.

The Galaxy Tab A7’s cameras are mediocre. The images lacked definition and sharpness; there is also a lot of visual noise. In a selfie, my curls lacked delineation, but on the plus side, the cameras captured my skin tone correctly.

Samsung galaxy s6 lite

The cameras of the Galaxy S6 Lite, on the other hand, provided sharper, better exposed and more realistic images. The color reproduction on the Galaxy S6 Lite images was vivid. In a selfie, the Galaxy S6 Lite captured subtle details of Tracy’s facial features that the Galaxy Tab A7 would be hard-pressed to perceive.

Winner: Galaxy s6 lite

Galaxy Tab A7 vs Galaxy S6 Lite: battery life

We tested both Samsung tablets on the Mag Laptop Battery Test, which involves continuous web browsing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. The Galaxy Tab A7 lasted a remarkable 13 hours and 13 minutes on a charge. The Galaxy S6 Lite also impressed with 12 hours and 39 minutes of battery life.

Winner: Samsung galaxy s6 lite

Overall winner: Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite

Of course, the Galaxy Tab A7 has an advantage over the Galaxy S6 Lite in some aspects. It lasts 34 minutes longer on a charge, it’s slightly more colorful, and its four-speaker Dolby Atmos system is pretty badass. It also offered better scores on Geekbench 5.0 and Jetstream 2.0.

Samsung galaxy s6 lite

Samsung galaxy s6 lite (Image credit: Future)

On the flip side, the Galaxy S6 Lite’s 435-nit panel is brighter than the Galaxy Tab A7’s 329-nit display, its cameras deliver sharper images, and it comes with an S Pen stylus.

However, I am leaning towards the Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite. It’s hard to recommend the Galaxy Tab A7 over the Galaxy S6 Lite when, for $ 279, you’ll get 4GB of RAM and an S Pen while the Tab A7 only offers 2GB of RAM – without an S pen – at the same price. While the Galaxy Tab A7 had the upper hand in some towers, the Galaxy Tab A7’s lead was tiny and negligible in most cases.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite emerged victorious in this game, but whether you decide to buy the Galaxy S6 Lite or the Galaxy Tab A7 you would always be a winner – both Samsung devices are among the best tablets on the market.
