Android updates are still not perfect, but we see things getting better year after year. Lately Samsung has amassed an excellent update track record and is now among the best in the industry when it comes to rolling out Android updates. Now the company is rolling out the August 2021 security update for its Samsung Galaxy line. Here is the full list.
Samsung Security Update August 2021 – What’s New
Samsung actually started rolling out its August 2021 security update early on July 27, almost a full week before the first Monday in July, when Google typically releases the list of top security issues that this patch has. solves. For Galaxy owners, it is a major advantage to be among the first Android phones to start receiving software patches and one of the main reasons for choosing a Samsung phone period.
The patch notes have yet to be shared by Samsung, which means we don’t yet know what bugs or security issues are fixed with all of the latest OTA releases.
Devices with Samsung security update August 2021
Which Samsung devices are receiving the August 2021 security update? Samsung’s list is, as usual, quite heavy. As of July 30, Samsung was already rolling out monthly fixes to four devices, which is still impressive considering we’re at the start of a new month.
This list will include a note indicating where the update debuted and whether it is also available in the United States. As usual, the latest additions will be marked in bold.
Galaxy S Series
As Samsung’s leading flagship series and among the world’s biggest sellers, it’s no surprise that devices like the Galaxy S21 series are among the first to get the August 2021 security update. However, only S21 units in Chinese markets have been confirmed to see the OTA update at this point. This is a good sign as it indicates that the patch is ready for worldwide release, although it should be noted that Chinese Android devices do not ship with access to the Play Store.
The fantastic budget flagship Galaxy S20 FE was the next in the Galaxy S series to be updated with the August 2021 security patch. Deployed in a number of European countries, the patch is being rolled out for the Exynos only 4G model of the S20 FE. We expect the Qualcomm-powered 5G variant to be updated soon in the not too distant future.
- Galaxy S20 FE – G780FXXU5CUG6 (first released in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Switzerland)
- Galaxy s21 – G99x0ZCU2AUGE (first released in China)
Galaxy a series
While the Galaxy A52 is fairly new, it was actually the three-year-old Galaxy A8 that was the second Samsung device to be updated with the August 2021 security patch. While we often criticize OEMs for the lack of post-launch support is really fantastic to see and an indication of the Korean company’s dedication to devices that are often considered far beyond the point of support by other brands.
Launched alongside the Galaxy A52, the Galaxy A72 also started seeing the August update early on, with Russian and Ukrainian devices starting to receive the patch from July 30:
- Galaxy A8 (2018) – A530FXXSLCUH1 (first released in Russia)
- Galaxy A52 – A525FXXU3AUG4 (first released in Germany)
- Galaxy A72 – A725FXXU3AUG2 (released first in Russia / Ukraine)
