With the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is advised to wear a face mask when going out and to wash your hands frequently with soap. For our personal devices like our smartphones, sterilization is just as important to reduce the spread of infections. Last week, Samsung introduced its UV sterilizer which also serves as a wireless charger. Now it seems that this accessory is coming to Malaysia very soon because it has passed SIRIM certification.
As indicated above, a Samsung device bearing the model number GP-TOU020SABWW has obtained the SIRIM green light. This corresponds to the model number of the ITFIT UV sterilizer currently listed on the Samsung Hong Kong product page.
To recap, this Samsung accessory has two UV lamps inside which claim to kill up to 99% of bacteria and germs, including E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. You can use it to sterilize your phone, headphones or even your sunglasses, as long as it can fit inside the box.
Inside there is a Qi wireless charger which can help charge your devices if you plan to leave it overnight. However, it should be noted that the UV function is automatically deactivated after 10 minutes. The sterilization process works on exposed surfaces, so stacking multiple devices on top of each other is not recommended.
According to the data sheet, the wireless charger has 10 W of power and weighs 715.2 g. It can accommodate devices up to the Galaxy S20 Ultra. So far, there is no price yet for the UV sterilizer.
