Just over a week before the $40.4 million guarantees on Derek Carr’s Raiders contract take effect, a potential business partner has emerged.
The Saints have been allowed to visit Carr, according to multiple reports.
While the visit is scheduled for Wednesday, no deal is imminent, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Carr, who has a no-trade clause and is expected to approve any deal, is doing her due diligence.
If Carr ends up playing for the Saints, he will reunite with his first head coach. Dennis Allen compiled an 8-28 record as Raiders head coach from 2012 to 2014. He was fired after the club started the 2014 season 0-4 with Carr – a second-round rookie – at the quarterback.
Last week, Carr said he was not allowed to speak with potential business suitors. It also reiterated its position that it would not extend the effective date of its contractual guarantees.
