Safaricom has today partnered with Huawei to launch three 5G Experience Centers in Nairobi, located at Safaricom retail stores.
The three centers, located in Safaricom’s Village Market, The Hub and Buruburu stores, will showcase the super-fast speeds and devices that come with 5G connectivity.
“We are thrilled to unveil these Experience Centers, which will allow Kenyans to experience the power of 5G firsthand. As a digital lifestyle enabler, we are further enhancing Kenya’s best internet network and empowering our customers to start exploring the limitless possibilities that 5G offers,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC.
At the 5G Experience Centers, customers will experience virtual reality gaming zones, smart capability showcases for homes and businesses, and speed test booths.
“As a long-time partner of Safaricom, we are delighted to be collaborating on these Experience Centers. They show how 5G can be transformative in connecting homes and small businesses to drive economic growth and social development, unlocking the digital economy,” said Sheng Kaifu, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Kenya.
Safaricom launched its 5G network last October, a first for the region. Since then, the service provider has launched more than 200 5G sites in 11 counties. They include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kisii, Kakamega, Nakuru, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Vihiga and Siaya.
Consumers and businesses already in 5G areas can take advantage of the network via 5G Wi-Fi. To check available 5G zones or obtain 5G Wi-Fi, customers can visit safaricom.co.ke/5g-wireless/coverage.
More than 300,000 Safaricom customers already using 5G smartphones can also access the 5G network and enjoy fast speeds of up to 2 Gbps, with typical speeds of 400 Mbps to 700 Mbps.
Safaricom has invested in its network over the years, with its 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G combined covering over 99% of Kenya’s population, while its fiber network has served over 450,000 homes and businesses.
