Wanting to reach a wider audience, he partnered with H&M to make a collection more affordable for main street shoppers.
“Wanderlust” came with enthusiasm, but it quickly came under criticism.
An open letter from groups representing artisans in India was sent to the designer, disappointed with the way the clothes were produced with a fast fashion brand.
For others, they just couldn’t get their hands on the clothes until they were exhausted. Commercial success perhaps, but Sabyasachi told BBC News what his intention behind the collaboration was.
