Daily Show star Roy Wood Jr, 44, is set to headline the 2023 White House Correspondents’ Dinner this spring in Washington, DC
Roy Wood Jr will headline this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
Wood is best known for playing a reporter on The Daily Show.
“It’s going to be a great night that will go down in the history books, or not, depending on what state you live in,” the comedian joked in a statement.
He also said, “It’s an honor to be part of a long tradition of celebrating these members of the media, who work so hard to uncover the truth and hold our government to account.”
This year, the annual gathering of stars will take place in Washington, DC on April 29 and President Joe Biden is expected to attend.

The comedian currently has a stand-up special on Paramount+ called Imperfect Messenger.
Tamara Keith, president of the Correspondents’ Association, said Thursday that Wood, 44, brings “a journalistic eye to her comedy.”
It was added: “He’s hilarious – but also makes sure his audience thinks with a laugh.”
Tamara also revealed her goal for the event.
He shared: “My goal with this year’s dinner is to highlight the importance of a free and independent press to a functioning democracy, so I’m thrilled to be able to feature a comedian who understands what journalism is. .”
Last year, the dinner returned as a live event after the covid-19 pandemic interrupted it for two years.
It also marked the return of the President and First Lady in attendance.

Former show host Trevor Noah spoke at last year’s dinner, where President Joe Biden mocked himself, former President Trump, the Party Republican and members of the press.
“I’m so thrilled to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than mine,” Biden, a Democrat, joked to an audience of about 2,600.

According to the WHCA website, the event raises funds.
“Our annual dinner is our primary source of revenue to fund all of our work, including support for reporters working to cover the President, events and programs to educate the public about the value of the First Amendment, and a free press. , and scholarships to help the next generation of journalists,” it noted.
And ticket sales are limited.
“Only news organizations with members can purchase tickets for the annual dinner. Details are sent to members several months before dinner.
“WHCA dinner ticket auctions and raffles designed to raise funds for other organizations or for commercial purposes are against organization policy.”
