Today’s footballers are finely tuned athletes, eating the right food to optimize their performance on the pitch.
But in Roy Keane’s time, there wasn’t much of that… the Manchester United legend admits he already ate a doner kebab three hours before a cup match!
Keane wasn’t that strict on his diet when playing compared to today’s stars
Keane made the revelations in a hilarious chat with Micah Richards as the adorable couple continued their “Road to Wembley” series on Sky Sports.
Former Man City defender Richards asked his Irish best friend what kind of food he used to eat before games to prepare for 90 minutes of action.
And we’re sure he wasn’t expecting this answer …
He said: “I played a cup game before Crystal Palace at home, and three hours before the game I had a kebab.”

We never get bored when Keane and Richards are on our screens
This revelation left Richards hysterical – you can probably hear his infectious laughter in your head right now.
Once calmed down, Keane continued, “A doner kebab from the shredder. Three hours before the game.
“When you’re younger you do well, but obviously you pay for it later. You think you are doing it, that you are having a bit of a laugh and that you are a little boy.
“In fairness, however, I was living alone and had no food at home. “
Keane also spoke about Foden’s diet and how he and other players will reap the benefits when they are in their 30s.

Foden is only 21, but has already won the Premier League three times
The Man United legend added: “I saw Foden being interviewed the other day, he was talking about cooking. He said ‘no, I have a boss’. He has a chef!
“Foden is refueling properly. He’s probably having a good breakfast.
“He’s recovering, he’s eating the right foods at the right time, look at Ronaldo.
“So Foden will also get the benefits when he turns 36, 37. Guarantee that he will still play at a high level.”
