Roy Keane and Micah Richards had a funny back and forth before the Manchester derby on Sunday.
The former men of Manchester United and Manchester City argued jovially about Richards’ rise to power at the start of his career.
By making an analogy with the emergence of 18-year-old Billy Gilmour before Chelsea vs Everton earlier in the afternoon, Richards compared the youngster’s sudden rise to the moment when he himself “burst onto the scene”.
Keane tried to drop her ankle in response and asked, “Did you barge in on the stage?” Very few defenders burst onto the scene. “
Richards took the jibe well and replied cheerfully: “You don’t remember my head against Villa? You don’t remember?
“Wait, I played for England at 18, the youngest defenseman to have played for England.
“I would say it burst onto the stage.”
Richards spent the first ten years of his career in City making his first teenage appearances in 2005.
His defining moment came in February of the following year when he scored a last-minute header to save a draw for City at Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
