The Australian actress, 41, has been cast as New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in the upcoming film They Are Us.
Fans will see another side of the Bridesmaids star as she plays the political leader in the wake of the tragic Christchurch Mosque shooting in 2019.
At the time, Ms Ardern was praised for her response to the two back-to-back mass shootings. The terrorist attack was carried out by gunman Brenton Tarrant who killed 51 people.
Tarrant entered Al Noor Mosque at the start of Friday prayers and opened fire before going to Linwood Mosque on the other side of town where he continued to shoot.
Tarrant, a white supremacist from Australia, was arrested soon after.
He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole on August 27 of this year.
The film will be directed by New Zealander Andrew Niccol, who has also worked on award-winning films like The Truman Show and Gattaca.
Rose, from Balmain, NSW, started acting at the age of 13 before succeeding in Hollywood.
In 2014, she starred in the hit film Neighbors, starring Seth Rogen and Zac Efron and was heralded as the face of Oroton – who went into voluntary administration last year.
She also appeared alongside Oprah Winfrey in the 2017 TV movie The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
