Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson are just a few of the notable names who have joined the new movement.

McIlroy was reportedly offered £400 million to join the PGA Tour, but he declined and has now reaffirmed his intention to stay with the PGA Tour.

A report from City AM claimed that a deal for the Northern Irishman to join LIV Golf had been reached, with the offer reportedly worth $850 million.

But when asked about the rumors, the NBC reporter Todd LewisMcIlroy said: “I honestly don’t know how these things started.

“I’ve never been offered a LIV number and I’ve never considered going to LIV. Again, I think I’ve made it clear over the last couple of years that I don’t think it’s something In my opinion.

“That doesn’t mean I judge people who went to play there. I think one of the things I’ve realized over the last couple of years is that people can make their own decisions about what ‘They think they are best for themselves and who are we to judge them for?

“But personally, for me, my future is here on the PGA Tour, and it’s never been any different.”

Asked where the speculation came from, he added: “No, no idea. I think over the last couple of years there’s been so many rumors about guys…I think the only thing What I also realized is that guys need to keep an open mind.

“I’m sure there are players still playing on the PGA Tour who have talked to the guys at LIV and had offers and such. But I have no idea, it was never even a conversation for us, it’s just one of those things.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to deal with it and that’s the state our game is in. I’m obviously here today and I’m in this PGA Tour event next week and I’ll be playing the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.

McIlroy, who finished 15th behind Scottie Scheffler at the Masters, was called a “little prick” by an anonymous LIV boss after the shock merger.

He has since softened his position on LIV Golf, but it is now very unlikely that the breakaway circuit will succeed in attracting him any time soon.
